Antigua News, January 2012.
Hi everybody.
Though it is already a few weeks into 2012 we would like to take the opportunity to wish everybody a happy and prosperous year and to thank you for supporting us in your prayers.
On Saturday the 17 th of December we went out carol singing round the streets of St. John’s. There were 21 of us altogether and we sang in a number of shops and bars. It was good fun.
Thank God for all the contacts we made and the true gift and meaning of Christmas, Jesus Christ.
We are planning another training session for new Street Pastors at the end of February running over two weeks so will need to do a promotion drive. The training will be on the 27 th , 28 th and 29 th of February and the 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th of March. There are already a number of people have come forward for training but there is room for more. A number of active Street Pastors have recently left the island and this has affected the teams meaning we have had to cut out one of the Saturday night teams.
Please pray for the right contacts both within the churches and the media. Pray also for established Street Pastors that they have the opportunities to promote Street Pastors amongst their friends and within their churches. Pray for a good response so that we can restore the cancelled team.
For some unknown reason there was not prayer pastors support set up when the Initiative started in Antigua. We have been trying to get this going but it is proving to be a struggle. There is however one Friday night that has a prayer support team and this team has commented on how it feels the presence of the Holy Spirit when it is out on the streets.
Please pray that we are able to promote this vital part of the work and get more people willing to commit and become prayer pastors.
The local Christian TV station has produced a feature on the work of Street Pastors in Antigua, this contains both interviews and footage taken on the streets. It is due to be shown in February.
Please pray that this will stimulate interest in the work. Please also pray for the network, it is facing financial pressures that restrict its output.
There is an ongoing need to do fundraising for the Initiative. There is a committee that organises some of the events but this is made up of a few very busy people so it struggles to meet and think of ideas etc.
Please pray for this group that it is encouraged and reinvigorated. Pray for opportunities to get the churches more involved with financial support. Pray for new ideas and more people to be involved with fundraising.
We now have a new website, www.antigua.streetpastors.org which is specifically about the Street Pastors Initiative in Antigua & Barbuda.
Please pray for us as non computer whizzes as we struggle to keep this relevant and interesting.
On a personal note, Paula injured her left knee just before Christmas and this is taking a long time to recover despite lots of therapeutic visits to the beach.
Please pray for healing and good health for us both.
Thanks Martin & Paula.
