Services/Prayer

Worship is a natural expression of the love one has for another. We meet to worship as an expression of our love for the Lord our God.

We love because He first loved us“.

All our services are open to the public, and you are most welcome to join us. Large print hymn and song books are available, and a sound system with hearing loop is installed. We also use projected (large print) words and pictures to enhance our worship.

If, for any reason, you are unable to attend, we can help… We now provide a recording service so you don’t need to miss out.

Sundays
We offer worship as an expression of our love for the Lord. All our services are open to the public, and you are most welcome to join us.

Our regular ‘English’ services are arranged in ways in which, we hope, most folk will feel at home…

9.30am – Traditional ‘Wesleyan’ style, often more quiet
11.00am – An ‘all-age’ style in part, with the Junior Church and Y @ C and Cheese meeting after 20 minutes or so, and a crèche facility for under 5’s (sometimes the whole service is all-age). Prayer-ministry is usually available
7.15pm – Contemporary ‘open’ Celebration (with opportunity for testimony, quiet space and prayer-ministry, and sometimes with a special emphasis, such as Holy Communion and Prayers for Healing)

Prayer Time (6.30 to 7.00pm) gives opportunity to prepare for the 7.15pm Celebration, and worshippers are encouraged to take their places in good time and to seek and enjoy God’s presence. The open celebrations usually continue with prayer-ministry or quiet reflection, and refreshments are available from 8.45pm.

Occasionally the whole 11.00am service aims to be all-age in style. We are seeking to develop this important aspect further, especially during our special summer series. Watch for details…

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated every month or so (usually on second Sundays). We welcome all who love the Lord Jesus, irrespective of Christian background, and all who seek Him to His Table.

The Chinese Congregation meets to worship at 2.00pm with services held in Cantonese. More information can be found on our Chinese Church page.

If you are unable to join in for any reason, please ask for a recording.

Saturdays
Messy Church is sometimes available, between 5.00 and 6.45pm, as a fifth event for the weekend. All children must be accompanied. Check for dates and details.

Midweek
We celebrate Holy Communion every Tuesday morning at 10.00am, and all are welcome to pop-in for this quiet and brief service.

Mid-morning refreshments are also on offer, prior to 11.00am Tuesday Prayer Fellowship. Why not call by… the kettle is usually on just before 11am. You’ll be sure of a warm welcome.

Our other regular midweek activities represent vital expressions of this church’s life, and offer supportive opportunities in a various ways. Details can be viewed in the Activities pages.

Viewed in the light of our mission among different groups of people, we are like a church with multiple congregations, seeking to express the life of Jesus in fresh ways. Each of our midweek activities provides fresh opportunity, not only to grow in our support of the local community, but also to learn how to serve.

Prayer
Prayer is a day by day and moment by moment discipline for all followers of Jesus. While we know from experience that prayer changes things, we also know that God hears our prayers and often answers them in ways we would not expect.

Anywhere, at any time, we know that the Lord is only a prayer away…

Is there something you need to pray about?
Are you feeling stuck in your prayers, or feeling unable to pray?
Would you like someone to pray for you? Would you like someone to meet and pray with you?

Prayer ministry is available upon request, and also after 11.00am services and 7.15pm celebrations.

Members of the church meet together regularly on the following occasions, and you are most welcome to share the stillness by joining in with us:
Sundays (weekly), 6.30-7.00pm
Tuesdays (weekly), 11.00am-11.45am – the kettle is usually on, and you’re welcome to call by
Monday Church Meeting (monthly, 2nd Monday evening), 7.30-9.00pm

Behind these regular times of praying together, there is an ongoing prayer ministry – sustained by ‘family prayers’ (our monthly bulletin), plus requested prayers (posted on our prayer-board) and an emergency ‘pastoral prayer-chain’.

We occasionally set aside a full week for sustained 24-7 style prayer.
Since 2007, our regular prayer has been: “Lord, we want to know your Presence with us here”.
Wonderfully – by His grace and favour – we really do!

There are also regular times of prayer held at our neighbouring churches…

St.Cuthbert’s

Morning Prayer is at 8.30am Monday to Friday (9.00am on Thursdays)
Evening Prayer is at 5.30pm Monday to Friday
St Mary’s & St Margaret’s: Morning Prayer is at 9.30am on Saturdays

Gage Road Chapel

Sunday mornings at 10.00am each week
Sunday evening at 7.00pm on each fifth Sunday

The local clergy meet to pray together in a Prayer-Walk each month, generally on a Wednesday afternoon. You are welcome to join in if you wish…
